Haji Baharudin
Kota Kinabalu — Day Pass
I had been telling myself for three years that I would sort out my household records. The morning session of the workshop was the thing that finally made me do it. We worked through a checklist together and I went home and spent the whole of Sunday on it. I did not expect to feel as settled as I did afterwards.

Sandakan — Family Toolkit
We ordered the toolkit for my parents — my father is sixty-two and thinking seriously about stepping back from his business within the next two years. The workbook opened conversations that had not happened in ten years. The facilitator who called us before we started was patient and specific about how to run the family session.

Tawau — Year Programme
I joined the year programme because I was retiring in eight months and genuinely did not know where to start. By month three I had a clearer picture of what I wanted the first year to look like and had started having real conversations with my husband about how the household would change. The coaching sessions are not glamorous — they are just consistent and useful.

Keningau — Day Pass
I drove from Keningau for the calendar planning workshop. Worth the drive. The afternoon session where we mapped out the first twelve months of retirement was something I had never done anywhere else. My only thought was that I wished the day had been longer — but I understand why they keep it contained. The workbook keeps you going at home.

Kota Kinabalu — Family Toolkit
My sister-in-law suggested we use the toolkit together with my mother-in-law. She is seventy and my father-in-law passed two years ago, so she is managing the household alone now. The conversation about what she actually wants from the next ten years — that had simply never happened. The prompt cards made it feel natural rather than serious.

Kota Belud — Year Programme
What I appreciated was that no one tried to sell me anything. I have been to other workshops where you eventually realise you are being funnelled toward a product or a financial planner. At Steadyway the facilitators are just there to help you think. That is a rarer thing than it should be.

Case Studies
Three household journeys
Challenge
A couple in their late fifties had no shared record of their household assets, documents, or accounts. Both assumed the other had a handle on it. Neither did. Approaching retirement made the gap suddenly visible.
Programme Used
Family Conversation Toolkit — two months working through the workbook together, with one facilitator orientation call at the start.
The facilitator suggested they work on one section of the workbook per week rather than trying to complete it in one sitting.
Result
By the end of eight weeks, the couple had a shared filing system, a joint document list, and a first conversation with a lawyer about their will — something they had postponed for eleven years.
"The workbook was the structure we needed to stop procrastinating." — Participant, Kota Kinabalu
Challenge
A civil servant of thirty years had a retirement date set but no picture of what daily life would look like. He described the approaching date as "a cliff edge I was walking toward with my eyes closed."
Programme Used
Pre-Retirement Year Programme — twelve months of monthly coaching and four quarterly workshop days. His wife joined two of the workshop sessions using a separate Day Pass.
Result
By month six he had a written plan for the first year, had started a structured volunteer role at his community mosque, and felt — his word — "prepared." The coaching continued to month twelve and he concluded it on the month of his retirement.
"The quarterly review notes gave me something to measure against." — Participant, Tuaran
Challenge
Three adult siblings needed to have a structured conversation with their mother about the family home, savings, and her wishes for the coming decade. Previous attempts at the conversation had ended awkwardly.
Programme Used
Family Conversation Toolkit — the eldest sibling attended a Day Pass session first to understand the approach, then ordered the toolkit for the full family meeting the following month.
Result
The ninety-minute meeting ran to two and a half hours. The prompt cards, in the elder sibling's account, meant "no one felt singled out or put on the spot." The family came away with a shared note of what had been agreed and a date to meet again.
"We had been avoiding it for years. The cards made it feel normal." — Participant, Kota Kinabalu
